There is something to suit everyone at Epping Forest, just north of Chingford. It’s brimming with culture, heritage, relaxation, nature, and adventure, and you can pop in for a hot drink at one of the High Beech tea huts. Once reserved as a royal hunting ground, these ancient woods change every season. Iron Age fort remains in these ancient lands, and the market town of Waltham Abbey has a long history since the Saxon times. There is mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing down the River Lea and nine circular walking trails around the forest. There is also unusual wildlife to be found, including the Muntjac Asian deer and the Longhorn cattle.
William Morris Gallery
Just over four miles from Chingford is the William Morris Gallery in the grounds of Lloyd Park, a Georgian house devoted to the artist William Morris and where he wrote some of his earliest poetry. Recent developments have seen the house refurbished with various collections and displays on the first and ground floors. The top floor is now a research and learning centre, and the east wing is home to a tea room, exhibition gallery and collection store. A visit to the Gallery will bring to life the work and influence of William Morris and his impact and legacy. There are sculptures, furniture, watercolours, ceramics, books, archives and much more to unearth. The gallery hosts talks, activities and performances, which all take inspiration from the collection.
Memorial Park Chingford
The Memorial Park Chingford, also known as the War Memorial Recreation Ground, was once created as a memorial to those who lost their lives in World War 1 and became a park in 1930. There are tennis courts on site that are free for all, and each has a grade A facility medium-sized bowling green. There is an ornamental pond, pedalos, an under 12's play area, zip wires and a vast open space for games of cricket and picnics. Through walks in the park, there are fascinating trees and wooden sculptures to spot on each visit.
Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum
The Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum is a fascinating old pumping station built in 1885. It is a Grade II listed building that was originally a sewage pumping station and is now a museum that focuses on the pioneering achievements in road, rail, air and sea transport in Waltham Forest and the surrounding area. The museum displays AEC Routemaster buses, a pair of Marshall C class steam engines, and fire fighting vehicles. You can also see a decommissioned London Underground 1967 Stock Victoria line carriage that is often used as a film set, concert venue and as a supper club!

Jurassic Falls Adventure Golf
Jurassic Falls Adventure Golf is located on the A406 Southend Road just outside Chingford. It is a prehistoric-themed 18-hole adventure golf course and an educational, fun day out for the family. Here you can wind around the fossil rock trail, cool down by the swamp waterfall and meet the dinosaurs that move, breathe and roar!
Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge
The Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge is a historical haven near the Chingford train station surrounded by the forest once used as a medieval hunting ground. Its timber frame is still intact. Delve into Tudor history here and discover how the lodge functioned under the use of Henry VIII and his daughter. The View visiting centre will tell you the main stories, themes, and history of Epping Forest. The ground floor has a replica of a Tudor kitchen to learn about class and cuisine, the first floor takes you through Tudor fashion, and the second floor offers the sights of the timber roof and spectacular views that take you back 500 years.
